Robert Rotella has a reverence and awe for the natural world. He has photographed landscapes all over the world, but after the arrival of his children, he began exploring macro photography closer to home. A self-taught photographer, his work is mainly influenced by Michelangelo, Georgia O’Keeffe and Art Wolfe.
He acquired his interest in photography early in his life from his father who would often take pictures of the family. He has photographed cities and people but more recently has specialized in macro flower photography and landscape images. He has worked at many areas of photography and takes pictures in 35mm and medium format and also develops his own images in a darkroom.
The son of a schoolteacher and housewife, Robert was born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. He has always had a significant interest in both science and art, and holds degrees in both Chemical Engineering and Finance. He has traveled extensively throughout many parts of the world and currently resides in the Pacific Northwest. Robert’s work is exclusively displayed at Rotella Gallery.
